Last year there was an increase of 30 to 35 percent in admissions. Earlier admission to polytechnic colleges was done through an entrance test conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Professional

Entrance Examination (BOPEE), But now the Board of Technical Education (BOTE) conducts the admissions. The reason behind the increasing admissions in polytechnic colleges is the promotion of skill development by the government along with improving the infrastructure. In the last five years, the department has constructed permanent camps for the colleges running on rented building.
