All India Survey 2019-20 report
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Thursday approved the release of the report of AISHE 2019-20. This report shows the current status of Higher Education in the country. In this regard, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ tweeted and wrote, “I am happy to announce the release of All India Survey 2019-20 report on Higher Education. As you can see, we have improved the GER, Gender Parity Index. The number of institutes of national importance has increased by 80 per cent (from 75 in 2015 to 135 in 2020).”

Enrollment of students in higher education  increased in
2019-20 According to the AISHE 2019-20 report, the total enrollment of students in higher education was 3.85 crore in 2019-20 as compared to 3.74 crore in 2018-19, of which 11.36 lakh (3.04 percent) An increase has been registered while the total enrollment in 2014-15 was 3.42 crore. As far as the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) is concerned, the percentage of students in the eligible age group enrolled in higher education stood at 27.1 per cent in 2019-20 as compared to 26.3 per cent in 2018-19 and 24.3 per cent in 2014-2015.
While the Gender Parity Index  in Higher Education improved
, the report said, “The Gender Parity Index (GPI) in Higher Education stood at 1.01 in 2019-20 while it was 1.00 in 2018-19. It further states that 2019- The student-teacher ratio in higher education is 26 out of 20.

The number of PhD students increased in 2019-20,
according to the report, 3.38 crore students were enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate level programs, out of which about 85 percent students (2.85 crore) enrolled in six major subjects such as Humanities, Science, Commerce, Engineering and Science. Enrollment was done in Technology, Medical Science and IT and Computer.
According to the report, the number of PhD students has also increased in 2019-20. During this, 2.03 lakh students did PH, while in 2014-15, the number of PhD students was 1.17 lakh.
