The Union Home Ministry has appointed 1988 batch IAS Dharampal as the new advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator. He will replace former advisor Manoj Parida. Parida has been brought back to Delhi by promotion to the rank of Secretary by the Central Government.

After the appointment, IAS Dharampal told Amar Ujala that he has studied from Punjab Engineering College (PEC) located in Sector-12, so he knows every part of the city very well. Chandigarh is one of his favorite cities. He said that the goal would be to make Chandigarh a world class in health-education and infrastructure. Health is a very important area in today’s time, so their special attention will be on it. He said that it is a good thing that Chandigarh is already much better in other areas including education, health. He will try to make it better. IAS Dharampal told that he will reach Chandigarh by Tuesday evening and will take over on Wednesday morning. After this, he will hold meetings with the officials to get information about the current situation about the city. It is worth noting that the new IAS advisor Dharampal has obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Electronics and Telecommunication from the year 1981 to 1985 from Peck.

After this, he took a Master of Technology degree in Computer Controls and Instrumentation from IIT Delhi. After this, he did a course in Management IT from IIM Ahmedabad. He is originally from Banga in Hoshiarpur, Punjab.

Providing services in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers
IAS Dharampal is currently posted as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. It has been said in the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs that IAS Dharampal has been given AGMUT cadre on 14 June 2021, but he has been appointed as Advisor to Chandigarh Administrator on 21 June. Therefore, the period of 7 days will be treated as ‘Awaiting Posting’. It is worth noting that Manoj Parida, the former advisor to the administrator, has been called back to Delhi 6 months before the end of his term. He has served as an advisor to the Administrator in Chandigarh for about two and a half years. His transfer orders were issued on Thursday. Since then there was speculation as to who would be the new advisor to the administrator. The names of many officers were also revealed in this. The Cabinet Appointments Committee of the Government of India has appointed Manoj Parida, a 1986 batch IAS, as the chairman of the National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention. Manoj Parida had come to Chandigarh on 26 December 2018. His term was to end on 26 December 2021 and he will retire in February 2022.
