Education Ministry issues guidelines for preparation of online education material for students with disabilities

The Union Ministry of Education, after the approval of Hon’ble Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, issued guidelines for the preparation of online education material for students with disabilities.

It is worth mentioning that PM e-VIDYA was launched in May 2020 with the objective of integrating all efforts related to digital/online/on-air education. Under this, it was envisaged to prepare special e-content (online education material) for children with disabilities.

As per the suggestions given by the committee, e-content (online education material) for students with disabilities should be developed on the basis of four principles comprehensible, operable, understandable and sound. Further, the e-content should conform to national standards (GIGW 2.0) and international standards (WCAG 2.1, e-pub, DAISY etc.) including standards such as text, tables, diagrams, visual, audio, video etc.

It is to be known that since the beginning of the Corona epidemic, the Government of India under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has taken decisions keeping in mind the students, teachers and parents across the country. For this, whether it is the decision to start online education across the country or the decision to cancel the board examinations this year in view of the health security of students and teachers.

Similarly, it was decided to increase the validity of TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) certificate from 7 years to lifetime for the candidates who want to make their career in the field of education. This will not only create employment opportunities in the field of education, but many people will get freedom from the pressure of appearing for the eligibility test again and again.
