After the approval of Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, the Union Education Ministry released the third edition of the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2019-20 here today. Under this, grades are given on the basis of initiatives taken by the states and union territories in the field of school education.

 

PGI was started under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring unprecedented change in school education. In this, grades are given to the states and union territories under a set of 70 parameters. For the first time this index was released in 2019 taking into account the initiatives taken by the states and union territories in 2017-18.

 

Improvement in the grades of most of the states as compared to the previous years
Punjab, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Kerala have been given A++ grade in the third edition of PGI. Also most of the States/UTs have improved their grades as compared to the previous years.

 

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Puducherry, Punjab and Tamil Nadu have improved PGI scores by 10% i.e. 100 or more marks. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Punjab have shown an improvement of 10% (8 points) or more in terms of access.

 

Odisha shows 20% improvement in infrastructure
13 states and union territories have shown improvement of 10% (15 points) or more in infrastructure and facilities. Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Odisha have shown 20% or more improvement is.

 

Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Odisha have shown more than 10% improvement in equity direction. Apart from this, 19 states and union territories have shown an improvement of 10% (36 marks) or more in terms of governance process. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal have shown improvement of around 20% (72 points or more).

 

The index helps in locating the gaps and making corrections.
This index motivates the states and union territories to achieve the desired results in the education sector through various initiatives. All the states and union territories find out the shortcomings in the field of education and also helps in working on them.
