Educationist Atul Kothari told DU principals about the new education policy

A seminar was organized in connection with the National Education Policy and its implementation under the joint aegis of Delhi University (DU) and Education Culture Upliftment Trust. About 60 principals of DU participated in the seminar organized at DU North Campus.

Renowned educationist Atul Kothari attended the keynote address. Executive Vice Chancellor Prof PC Joshi, Registrar Dr Vikas Gupta, Dean of College Pro Balram Pani were also present on the program. The Executive Vice Chancellor said that a 48-member committee has been formed to implement the new education policy in DU.

Atul Kothari, National Secretary of Education Culture Upliftment Trust, said that after 150 years, the education policy has been formulated in line with Indian culture. This is the third education policy after India’s independence.

Shikshaanita came in 1968 and 1986. However, both of these were far from the sense of Indian totality. The National Research Foundation will be established to promote research in the new education policy. Uniform standards will be set for government and private higher education institutions.

The new National Education Policy talks about the inclusion of Indian knowledge tradition, art, culture and values in all subjects at different levels of education. For the first time after independence, a special education area will be established to promote education among the socio-economically backward class students.

Higher education institutions teaching in Indian languages will be encouraged. Atul Kothari said that by the year 2025, 50 per cent students of college, university level will acquire knowledge of vocational education. In the next decade, vocational education will gradually be included in the mainstream education stream.
