The process of demolition of the dilapidated school buildings of the Basic Education Department was long overdue, which has now gained momentum. DM Shailendra Kumar Singh has asked all the Assistant Engineers of the PWD Provincial Division to report on 20 January 2021 on points of technical scrutiny, evaluation including computed value, etc. of dilapidated buildings. After this, action will be taken to demolish the dilapidated buildings.

The old buildings of 709 council schools in the district have been declared dilapidated and disposable many years ago, which are yet to be demolished. Due to this the incidents of falling of dilapidated buildings in schools are often exposed, in which the lives of children have been put at risk. At the same time, a campaign is being carried out for the rejuvenation of the council schools, but the demolition of the buildings already declared dilapidated has been pending for decades.

During this period, the government also changed the demolition process several times, but the matter remained limited to investigation. The new committee was formed in September 2020 according to the new mandate by dissolving the already formed committee. In this, AE Provincial Block and AE Minor Irrigation were made members under the chairmanship of XEN of Rural Engineering Department. The committee was to evaluate the dilapidated

buildings and submit the computed value figures to the DM, But after this, PWD has been included in the committee changes again. DM Shailendra Kumar Singh has instructed all the AEs of the PWD Provincial Block to conduct an audit of the dilapidated buildings in the committee meeting.

For the demolition of the dilapidated buildings of the schools, a committee meeting has been held under the chairmanship of the DM, in which the DM has given a fresh assessment of the dilapidated buildings and instructed the assistant engineers to submit the report. Action will be taken for demolition of dilapidated buildings after the report of AE. -Buddha Dear Singh, B.S.A.
