Educational Qualification: Candidates should possess Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in the subject/ discipline with consistently good academic record. Candidates should have relevant experience.

Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya is an Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) accredited and ISO 9001:2000 certified institution. It was established on November 1st, 1978. The College of Agriculture (established in May, 1966) formed the nucleus of the new farm University. The Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University has been given the mandate for making provision for imparting education in agriculture and other allied branches of learning, furthering the advancement of learning and prosecution of research and undertaking extension of such sciences, especially to the rural people of Himachal Pradesh. Over the years, Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University has contributed significantly in transforming the farm scenario of Himachal Pradesh. The Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University is situated at Palampur at an elevation of 1250 meters.

Palampur is a green hill station and a municipal council in the Kangra Valley in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, surrounded by tea gardens and pine forests before they merge with the Dhauladhar ranges. Palampur is the tea capital of northwest India but tea is just one aspect that makes Palampur a special interest place. It is among the 10 big cities of Himachal Pradesh and biggest city of district Kangra ranges in himachal pradesh. Female Sex Ratio is of 953 against state average of 972. Child Sex Ratio in Palampur is around 854 compared to Himachal Pradesh state average of 909. Literacy rate of Palampur city is 91.33% higher than state average of 82.80%. In Palampur, Male literacy is around 92.96% while female literacy rate is 89.64%.

Himachal Pradesh has a total population of 6,856,509 including 3,473,892 males and 3,382,617 females as per the Census 2011.
