The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong, Meghalaya is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The Institute is coming up on a plot of land measuring 20 Acres adjacent to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) at Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, Meghalaya. The Union Cabinet in its meeting held on 27th March, 2008 accorded approval to establish North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy at Shillong to provide health care to the people of NE Region and Sikkim under Ayurveda and Homoeopathy systems of medicine; moreover, to promote and popularize the Ayurveda and Homoeopathy and to create awareness among the general masses regarding the importance, effectiveness and potentials of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy.
Shillong is the capital and hill station of Meghalaya, also known as “The Abode of Clouds”, one of the smallest states in India. Meghalaya is the north-east Indian state. In Sanskrit the name means “the abode of clouds”. 2,964,007 is the total population of the state 1,492,668 females and males 1,471,339 and in terms of population Meghalaya is the 23rd state of the country. Meghalaya is surrounded by Assam and Bangladesh in the North and South and south respectively. Around 70 percent of the people in Meghalaya practice Christianity as their religion, around 13 percent practice Hinduism while 4 % practice Islam. The best time to visit Meghalaya is the months between March and July. Nongkrem Dance, Wangala and Behdienkhlam are the major festivals in Meghalaya.
