NEP 2020: National Research Foundation’s proposal ready, budget of 50 thousand crores
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has proposed to form NRF i.e. National Research Foundation. NRF will be set up under the new National Education Policy 2020. It is noteworthy that while presenting the draft of the new education policy in July 2020, the then Union Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced it. Now the new Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is taking it forward. In this sequence, he has prepared its proposal.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the idea of setting up NRF is to strengthen the research ecosystem in India. The NRF is expected to act as an apex structure in the research area. Union Minister Pradhan said that the objective of proposing NRF is that it will improve the linkages between R&D, academia and industry. The total proposed expenditure of the National Research Foundation has been fixed at Rs 50,000 crore over a period of five years.
Research ecosystem will get strengthened
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the government proposes to set up a National Research Foundation (NRF) to strengthen the research ecosystem in India. He said, one of the major objectives of NRF is to promote research, develop research network and provide research facilities in educational institutions, especially universities and colleges. Union Education Minister tweeted, Under the National Policy on Education, Government of India proposes to set up a National Research Foundation with a total outlay of 50,000 crores over a period of 5 years to strengthen the research ecosystem in the country and make #AatmanirbharBharat Is.
Objectives of the National Research Foundation
One of the major objectives of NRF is to initiate, develop and provide research facilities in educational institutions. In educational institutions, special attention will be given to universities and colleges where research potential is still in the development stage. Another objective of the NRF is to fund and support high-impact, large-scale, large-scale exploration, multi-institution, and inter-faculty and multi-national projects. All the above work will be done in collaboration with the concerned ministries, departments and other government and non-government organizations, especially the industry.
