Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said on Tuesday that the new National Education Policy will not undermine the provisions for reservation in educational institutions contained in the Constitution. The Minister said that successful programs and policies will continue with the new efforts to bring SC, ST, OBC, Divyang and other socio-economic disadvantaged groups into educational inclusion.

The education minister’s response came in the media last week after the news that was based on the CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s letter to the Prime Minister, in which he asked if the new national education policy would end reservation policy in educational institutions Is the idea of.

Nishank said, some of my political friends are raising doubts that the National Education Policy 2020 may weaken the provisions of reservation in the educational system of the country. I would like to clarify from my side that there is no such intention as is also clearly reflected in the new education policy. 

This policy confirms the constitutional provision of reservation contained in Article 15 and Article 16 of the Indian Constitution. The minister said that various entrance exams like JEE, NEET, UGC-NET, IGNOU were conducted after the announcement of NEP, 2020 and many appointment procedures were also conducted in educational institutions. But so far, there have been no complaints of weakening the provision of reservation.
