Sanskrit subject disappeared from Bihar Education Department’s e-learning initiation portal

Sanskrit, a compulsory subject, has disappeared from the curriculum of elementary subjects in Bihar’s school education. Sanskrit subject as a compulsory subject and language in various states of the country is missing from the initiation portal of the Education Department of Bihar. Academics have expressed concern over this. This has also created a sense of dissatisfaction among the students. Due to the absence of Sanskrit from the curriculum taught during smart classes, students may remain ignorant of this oldest and mother language of many languages of the country. They are feeling sorry for not acquiring the knowledge of compulsory language along with their national language.

However, the silence of the Education Department on this is beyond comprehension. The Diksha Portal diksha.gov.in was launched by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India on 5th September 2017. In Bihar, Diksha apps were made available to schools for smart classes in the year 2018-19.

Translation in many languages except Sanskrit

Diksha Portal is designed for holistic education. Diksha App has translation in Persian, Arabic, Bengali, English, Urdu and Hindi subjects. But Sanskrit itself is a compulsory subject. Whereas for the studies of class IX and X students, this subject should be on the Diksha app. So that students can have knowledge of this compulsory subject before the board exam. Let us tell you that after Mathematics subject in Bihar, most of the students who fail are in Sanskrit only. If the government still could not link this compulsory subject with the Diksha app, then lakhs of students may fail in this subject  in the board examination. In the year 2018, this app was made, through which teachers across the state were given loyalty training. So that they can implement the operation of smart class smoothly.

It is worth mentioning that the subjects of the Bihar School Examination Committee are marked with Sanskrit subject only. The interesting thing is that Sanskrit subject is uploaded on the Diksha app of other neighboring states.

What officials say:

District Education Officer Suryanarayan gave a roundabout reply on this subject. Said- I cannot say anything about this right now. You talk to the DPO. We have not even seen this initiation app yet. At the same time, Akshay Pandey, DPO of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan said that such a matter has come to my notice. Homework is being done on this subject.

It is a matter of government level. Senior officials will be apprised of the matter in the meeting.
