The State Committee of SFI demonstrated outside the Directorate of Education, Shimla. The committee’s state secretary Amit Thakur said that every family is in crisis due to the Corona epidemic worsening the state’s economy. Instead of giving financial support to the public, at such a time, the government decides to impose 18% GST on the basic right of education like under the cover of Corona, after which a proposal for increasing fees from schools to colleges and universities was brought.

He said that again the price of books was increased by 25 percent. SFI has been opposing these anti-student decisions from the beginning, but it does not linger on the ears of this government. The government and administration are not ready to listen to these legitimate demands of the students, which also exposes the dictator’s full attitude and anti-education mindset of this government. SFI demands that imposing 18 per cent GST on education is not student friendly in any way, it should be withdrawn immediately. The decision to increase the value of books by 25 percent should be withdrawn. The arbitrariness of private educational institutions should be banned. The scholarship should be reinstated.

The SFI State Committee believes that during this period of disaster, students have faced many difficulties in studying online and many students have not been able to study due to network problems in remote areas. This time only 50 percent of the syllabus should be included in the examinations. Amit Thakur warned the state government that if these demands are not met at the earliest, SFI will intensify the movement by mobilizing students in every college.
