State Education Minister angry over Odia’s exclusion from ‘Education Portal’, told the decision – unjust

Odisha’s Electronics and IT Minister Tusharkanti Behera on Friday expressed concern over the exclusion of Odia language from an online portal of the Union Education Ministry. Calling it unjust, he appealed to reconsider the decision. The Education Ministry had announced that the study material would be available in 10 languages on the ‘Swayam Portal’. Odia was included in these 10 languages. The Education Ministry had said that the language should not be a hindrance in learning.

At the same time, Behera said that Odia was removed during the translation of the study material of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Behera said in a statement on Friday that the ministry’s decision to remove Odia on the recommendation of AICTE is unfortunate and unjust. The minister said that lakhs of Odia students, especially those belonging to rural areas, will be deprived of quality e-education if Odia is excluded.

Will not compromise with the future of students

He said that the state government would request the central government to make the curriculum available in Odia language. Under no circumstances will the future of Odia students be compromised. The minister also said that students are dependent on online education amid the Kovid epidemic. The decision to drop Odia would defeat the purpose of removing the language barrier to learning.

CM is giving emphasis on online education

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been emphasizing on online education during the COVID-19 pandemic, for which instructions have also been issued to the IT department to make the situation better. State government minister Tusharkanti Behera has sought an answer from the central government on why Odia was separated from AICTE.
