Nagaland, the 16th State of the Indian Union, was established on 1st Dec 1963, with Kohima as its Capital. It borders the state of Assam to the west, Arunachal Pradesh and part of Assam to the north, Burma to the east and Manipur to the south. The state is rich in mineral resources such as coal, limestone, iron, nickel, cobalt, chromium, and marble. Nagaland has a recoverable reserve of limestone of 1,000 million tonnes plus a large untapped resource of marble and handicraft stone. Forestry is also an important source of income. Cottage industries such as weaving, woodwork, and pottery are also an important source of revenue.
