Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the ODI series against the West Indies, Mayank Agarwal who battled brilliantly in Test matches in place of Dhawan has been included in the squad. Dhawan was ruled out of the T20 series against the West Indies due to injury, replacing Sanju Samson in the team.
While giving information on Shikhar Dhawan’s injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India said that Mayank Agarwal will be part of the ODI team in his place. Dhawan had suffered a deep cut on his left knee during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game against Maharashtra in Surat and was ruled out of the ongoing T20I series has also shown in a great game in Test cricket. Mayank was also sent to England during the ICC World Cup, after which he has now been given a place in the ODI team.
Mayank is currently playing for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy against Tamil Nadu. He will miss at least the second round of Ranji matches, which begin on 17th December and this is the second time in a year he has been called upon as a replacement in the India ODI squad. He was Vijay Shankar’s replacement during the Word Cup after all-rounder picked up a toe injury.
India has to play three ODIs against West Indies soon after the three-match T20 series. The first match of the series will be played in Chennai on 15th December. The second match will be held in Visakhapatnam on 18th December, while the last ODI is to be played in Cuttack on 22nd December.
