BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said on Friday that the upcoming Asia Cup would be held in Dubai, making the way for both India and Pakistan to participate in this continental tournament. The proposed Asia Cup host has been handed over to Pakistan in September (2020), but the BCCI made it clear that the Indian team would not be able to travel to the neighboring country due to security concerns, so the tournament was shifted to Dubai.
Before leaving for the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting to be held in Dubai on March 3, Saurabh Ganguly said that the Asia Cup would be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan would play in it. Earlier, the BCCI had said that it had no problem playing with Pakistan, the host of the tournament, but it should be held at a neutral venue. India and Pakistan teams have not played bilateral series since 2012-13. In 2012-13, Pakistan toured India for a limited-over series.
Due to the ongoing political tension between India and Pakistan, the two countries have faced each other in major ICC competitions since 2013. Ganguly congratulated the Indian women’s team captained by Harmanpreet Kaur on reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. The BCCI president said that she is playing great cricket and he confirmed the semi-final ticket. There is no single team contender in this World Cup. The Indian team is fantastic, let’s see where their journey in the tournament lasts.
