The Allahabad High Court has expressed concern over the misuse of the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act in Uttar Pradesh to prevent cow slaughter and the care of destitute animals. The High Court has said that this law is being misused, it is also being used against innocent people.
The remarks made by the Allahabad High Court regarding the condition of cows and the misuse of this act have also been supported by the famous poet Kumar Vishwas. Kumar Vishwas has also expressed his concern over the problems faced by cows.
Kumar Vishwas wrote in tweeting, ‘Since I own a cowshed of about 10 cows-cow dynasties, I 100% agree with this remark of the Hon’ble High Court. In the last few years, buying, ordering, sending, keeping and conceiving cows has become so complicated and risky that even a dozen of my knowledgeable cowherds have stopped keeping cows.
Justice Siddharth of the Allahabad High Court made this remark during the hearing on the bail plea of Shamli K. Rahmuddin, who was accused of cow slaughter. While granting bail to the accused, Justice Siddharth had said that this law is being used against innocent people. Whenever the meat is recovered, in many cases it is considered cow meat without any forensic laboratory investigation.
Justice Siddharth of the Allahabad High Court also commented harshly on the pathetic condition of cows, crop wastage of farmers by cows. The High Court said that the cowsheds are not taking milkmen and old cows without milk. Gaushalas are showing interest in keeping only milch cows. People also abandon old and non-milch cows and are forced to roam the streets.
The presence of cows and cattle on the road is also a danger to people passing by. Stray cows in rural areas are ruining farmers’ crops. Earlier farmers were afraid of indigo cows, now they have to protect their crops from cows too.
