Teachers sitting besieged the education building in Mohali, jammed, removed after meeting with Education Minister, closed the way to Chandigarh

For the last six days, raw teachers have been sitting around the headquarters of the education department. Four teachers are climbing on the roof of the education department with the threat of death if their demands are not met. On Monday afternoon, the protesters blocked the main road leading to Chandigarh at the lights of Phase 6-7. The protesters removed the jam after the administration fixed a meeting with the Education Minister on Tuesday. At the same time, the protesting teachers are now engaged in the exercise of garnering support by contacting the employees and farmer organizations.

These temporary teachers have been sitting besieging the education department since last Wednesday to make themselves permanent in the department and demanding equal pay. Four protesters have been climbing on the roof of the education department for the last 6 days carrying petrol bottles and sulfas tablets. Since Wednesday, several rounds of meetings of the protesters have been held with the district administration, Education Secretary Krishna Kumar and representatives of the government. These meetings have not yielded any results so far. The protesters blocked the main road leading to Chandigarh at the lights of Phase 6 and 7 at around 1.30 pm on Monday. The protesters sat around the whole square. After this, long queues of vehicles formed all around. Police had to manage the situation by diverting traffic.

The traffic situation in the city was disturbed due to the closure of Punjab-Chandigarh lifeline. Commuters from Punjab to Chandigarh had to face a lot of trouble. The protesting teachers removed the jam after the administration fixed a meeting with the Education Minister on Tuesday at around 3 pm. Now on Tuesday, a meeting of the protesting teachers delegation will be held at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh with Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Captain Sandeep Sandhu.
At the same time, Davinder Singh Sandhu, Ajmer Singh Aulakh and Veerpal Sadana, representing the protesters, say that the struggle is not going to stop on being made permanent in the department and less than equal pay. Along with this, the protesting teachers have also started an exercise to garner support for themselves. For this, a meeting has been held with other teacher and employee organizations on Tuesday. The protesters are also trying to garner support from farmers’ organisations.
