Uttar Pradesh is becoming the hub of medical education, after Karnataka and Maharashtra, the highest number of medical seats in UP
The dream of becoming a hub of medical education in Uttar Pradesh seems to be coming true. In the case of medical education too, UP has left many states behind. The increase in MBBS seats in the state government and private sector is a proof of this. Now, after Karnataka and Maharashtra, the maximum number of MBBS seats are in UP.

Now more than UP seats are only 8,845 in Karnataka and 7,270 in Maharashtra. This is the first time that UP has moved towards becoming a hub of medical education by increasing medical seats.
After Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came to power, decided to open a new medical college. Till the year 2016, there were 12 medical colleges in the state. At the same time, the foundation of 28 medical colleges was laid between the year 2017 and 2019, out of which 7 medical colleges have started teaching work.
The process of construction of 13 new medical colleges is going to start soon.

Not only this, the establishment of Gorakhpur and Rae Bareli AIIMS is proving to be a milestone in terms of medical education and health facilities of UP. Along with this, there is also a plan to open several medical colleges in the private sector. After the new medical colleges become operational, in the next three to four years, about 9 to 10 thousand seats of MBBS will be admitted in UP every year.
Yogi government has established Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University in Lucknow, giving unified form of administrative system of medical education. So far, where medical colleges were affiliated to different state universities, while giving them integrated form, affiliation is being given to the same university.
This arrangement has been
made for paramedical staff, paramedical staff’s role is most important in medical system. In such a situation, the Yogi government has made a planned effort to train nursing and paramedical staff in the state with a focus towards this. As a result, up to three years ago, there were about 500 institutions training nursing staff in the state, in which there were 21 thousand seats. Now the number of nursing institutions has increased to about 750, out of which 36,500 seats have been raised. Apart from this, a total of 3,056 medical institutes have now been formed in the state, including paramedical institutions.
