With the decline in the cases of corona infection in the national capital, the state government has now started the process of setting up its own board of school education – Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE). According to an official associated with this process, the process of coordination with government schools has started under the functioning of DBSE. The Delhi government had earlier estimated that 25-30 government schools would be affiliated to DBSE in 2021-2022, the first academic year of its operation. However, officials could not immediately confirm how many schools have shown interest in affiliating with the newly established DBSE.

A senior Delhi government official said, “Different developments are taking place at different stages. Coordination with government schools, recruitment of staff members, training of teachers, preparation of curriculum and many other things are in process. However, all developments are in their initial stages and hopefully we will be able to make an announcement in the next one or two months. When asked when the board would be fully functional, the official said, “The actual functioning of the Delhi Board of School Education will start after the reopening of schools in the city.”

The establishment of Delhi’s first Board of School Education (DBSE) was announced by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government on March 9 during the annual budget for 2021-22 and allocated Rs 62 crore for it. Went. Another Delhi government official said that the notification had been issued, the preparation of the syllabus was also in full swing, but due to the second wave of corona in the capital, all plans to start the functioning of DBSE were put on hold. .

DBSE is the first independent Board of School Education under the Government of Delhi. Its governance and coordination will be overseen by a governing body headed by the Education Minister of Delhi. Other members of the governing body will be education officers, experts in the field of higher education, principals of government and private schools, teachers and parents of children. The existence of a separate education board for Delhi came to the fore on 19 March. This happened under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The Delhi cabinet had approved the proposal to set up DBSE on 6 March.
